My Story
Throughout my youth maintaining fitness has been relatively easy, but on reaching middle age retaining flexibility and strength has been more challenging. While exploring alternatives to running I discovered the benefits of yoga, initially online during COVID 19 lockdown and eventually joining a class in Girvan. The Foundation Scotland Educational grant enabled me to take my new passion further when I enrolled in the Health & Fitness Education (HFE) Level 3 yoga teacher training . Over the year it has taken to complete the course I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the more technical aspects of becoming a teacher and it has given me a greater understanding and appreciation of yoga, its history, philosophy, practice and its physiological effects on the body.

In the short time of Barr Yoga's existence we have established ourselves as an active group of 10-15 members. The Barr Community Micro-grant enabled further funding to purchase equipment for new members joining. In August 2023 we raised money for the Alzheimers charity with the support of Barr Community Shop and the Stinchar Valley Quilters.
It has been very rewarding to see interest grow and in November 2023 I had the opportunity to offer classes in Girvan too.
